CYM Statement - Coronavirus (COVID-19) - 18th March 2020

Following tonight's decision by the government to close schools on Friday, and after speaking to the headteacher at St Joseph's Primary School this evening, it has become necessary to cancel CYM rehearsals for the foreseeable future.

While we are all deeply disappointed, this is an unprecedented situation which is affecting professional and amateur organisations of all sizes. We have no option but to follow official guidance for the health and safety of our members and society in general.

Our next scheduled performance is our Annual Concert at Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre at the end of June. At present, this looks unlikely to take place, but we are more hopeful of being able to make our trip to Scarborough in mid-September. Of course, no one knows how long this virus will continue to affect us so please keep checking our website and social media for updates.

During this unexpected break, the CYM Committee will continue working behind the scenes planning events for when we return, including a proposed short concert tour in the UK in 2021. As soon as we have further information, we'll let you know.

In the meantime, an important message for our members: Keep singing and playing your instruments! You may have seen in the news how music is helping to keep up the morale of those in isolation, from the 'garden gigs' being arranged in Sheffield to singing from the balconies in Italy.

Look after each other and yourselves, follow the guidelines at gov.uk/coronavirus and keep in touch. We can't wait to see you all again soon!
